"The Military Honor Guard"
A solemn duty, a tribute too
An undertaking we’re proud to do
We hate to see our comrades pass
So thank them now, lift up a glass
What they have given we can’t repay
So we honor them on this solemn day
They’re laid to rest with honor and pride
For their family and country so many have died
Some have paid the ultimate price
They gave us all freedom with their sacrifice
We choose to honor these vets at the last
We want to give thanks for their service past
The special words, the twenty- one gun salute
And TAPS, the moving and final tribute
So rest in peace you gallant few
Who did what your country asked of you!
REST EASY, COMRADES
TOMAHAWK AREA HONOR GUARD
In 2000, Congress legislated that, upon request of the next of kin, all eligible veterans must receive military funeral honors when they pass on. The legislation also encourages Veterans Service Organizations, including the American Legion, to augment the active duty funeral detail as an authorized provider with honor guard, bugler, and/or rifle team. The Tomahawk Area Honor Guard is a proud representative of this most hallowed event. Our Honor Guard consists of veterans from a wide array of Veterans Service Organizations with one common goal; to provide a dignified, honorable, and worthy memorial at the time of passing.
Our Honor Guard supports funerals and memorial services at cemeteries, churches and public or private facilities. The type of military honors we may provide include flag folding and presentation to next of kin, playing of Taps, service flag honors, and rifle volley when requested.
The Tomahawk Area Honor Guard also provides flag services and patriotic demonstrations for the Tomahawk community. Examples include Memorial day, 9/11 Rememberence, July 4th parade, flag raising, and school programs.
Our services are free, however, we will accept donations which help us carry out our important mission to provide final honors to those who served our country.
